London Active Partnership Swimming Development Plan 2002 - 2007

The Active Sports Swimming Development Plan for The London Active Partnership will, in short, aim to achieve the following:

Stage One

In year one:

  • 33 local Swimming Festivals involving 792 young people (8-10yrs), at least 11 Festival Co-ordinators, 44 Stewards, 44 Event Supervisors, 11 Starters, 11 Disability Talent I.D. spotters and 15 clubs.
  • 55 local Swimming Development Camps involving up to 1100 spaces for young people from Festivals.

By year five:

  • 222 (over 5 years) Festivals linked to existing exit routes attracting 5328 young people.
  • 396 (over 5 years) local Development Camps linked to existing exit routes involving up to 7380 spaces for young people.
  • to have successfully integrated disabled swimmers in mainstream clubs and developed links between mainstream and disability club.

Stage Two

A network of quality junior clubs with club action plans and Swim 21/Active Sports Accreditation.

In year one:

  • to support 23 clubs in reaching Swim 21 and Active Sports club accreditation.
  • By year five.
  • to have supported at least 55 clubs to Swim 21 and Active Sports club accreditation.
  • To have fitting and effective Swim 21 club structure within every Borough.

Stage Three

To develop a fair and open assessment process for swimmers (10-12yrs) recruited from Local Development Camps and Swim 21 Skill Development Clubs.

In year one:

  • 3 Assessment Programmes involving 3 Partnership Head Coaches and covering all 8 Action Groups.

By year five:

  • 4 Assessment Programmes covering 4 Partnership Head Coaches covering all 8 Action Groups.
  • Disabled swimmers will be given access to stage four opportunities against the appropriate criteria.

Stage Four

To provide Partnership Camps for talented swimmers (10-12yrs).

In year one:

  • 3 Partnership Camps involving 111 young people, 3 ASA Coaches, 3 ASA Club Coaches and 18 Lane Coaches.

By year five:

  • 4 Partnership Camps (twice per year) involving up to 288 young people, 8 ASA Coaches, 6 ASA Club Coaches and 48 Lane Coaches.
  • The need for a Partnership Development Camp exclusively for disabled swimmers will be monitored.

NB: Young People at Stage 4 may have been registered at a previous stage in Active Sports Coaches, Volunteers and Officials.

  • To profile and actively develop approximately 200 coaches in year one.
  • To provide mentoring support - in year one for Head, Assistant and Trainee Coaches.
  • To provide quality professional qualifications each year to ensure the quality and quantity of coaching staff grows and is sustainable in a strategic manner to ensure the partnership aims.
