2009/2010 Season - Under 14'sCroydon Schools' Under 14s 3 Brighton Schools' Under 14s 2 (20 January 2010) A goal by Tovia Aniana (Harris South Norwood) in the last minute secured a 3-2 win for Croydon Schools' over Brighton Schools', in a tense Eagles Trophy tie at Croydon Arena. Brighton took the lead in the tenth minute, but Croydon soon equalised when Francaty Dabo (St Joseph's College) converted a splendid cross from Reece Awauah (Harris South Norwood). The match was evenly contested, with chances falling to both sides, but Brighton regained the lead five minutes before half-time. Croydon started the second half in a positive mode, attacking Brighton at every opportunity. They hit the crossbar and a post and it seemed a matter of time before they would again equalise. Alex Kenlock (Trinity) volleyed an effort into the top right corner of the goal, which gave the Brighton goalkeeper no chance, making the score 2-2 and setting up a grandstand finish, with ten minutes remaining. Both side missed several opportunities to clinch victory. Awauah and Tova Aniana (Harris South Norwood) played a one-two and Aniana placed the ball neatly into the Brighton net, to make the final score, 3-2 in Croydon's favour. Croydon Squad: Connor Gathercole (Shirley), Fankaty Dabo (St Joseph's College) Kieran Scantlerbury (Harris South Norwood), Robbie Burley (Shirley) Reece Awuah (Harris South Norwood), Joel (St Joseph's), Tova Aniana (Harris South Norwood), Jack Hanmore and Jack Seddon (both Riddlesdown), Luke Turner (Royal Russell), Josh Meek (Oasis Shirley Park) Alex Kenlock (Trinity), Anthony Maduato (Oasis Shirley Park) Croydon Schools' U14s 2 South London Schools U14s 8 (24 October) A disastrous second half performance in which Croydon conceded six goals, saw them crushed, 8-2, in the first round of the London Schools' Football Association's Sun Shield competition, at home to neighbours, South London, at Shelton Sports, Warlingham on Saturday, 24 October. South London were quick of the mark and pressurised Croydon throughout the first half, leading 2-0 at half-time. When Tova Aniana (Harris South Norwood), reduced the arrears for Croydon shortly after the break, it looked as though that might signal a fight-back, but an unfortunate mix-up in the Croydon defence resulted in an "own goal" and restored South London's two goal cushion and they were 5-1 up before a well-taken penalty by Croydon's Connor Gathercole (Shirley) made it 5-2. The visitors ran in three more goals, to make the final verdict, 8-2. Croydon Squad: Jack Seddon, Jack Hanmore, Ben Cotton (all Riddlesdown), Anthony Maduato (Oasis Shirley Park), Luke Turner, Miles Watkins (both Royal Russell), Connor Gathercole (Shirley), Kieran Scantlebury, Seth Grippith, Tova Aniana, Ryan Lombardo (all Harris Academy South Norwood), Taylor Smith, Jobi Freeman-Lampard (both Edenham). | ||
