2009/2010 Season - Under 13's

Croydon Schools' U13s 0  Barnet Schools' U13s 1 (27 February 2010)

A single second half goal killed Croydon Schools' Football Association's U13 Borough side's hopes of reaching the semi-final of the English Schools' Football Association semi-final when they entertained Barnet Schools at the Croydon Postal ground at Warlingham on Saturday.

The match was a very close affair which always seemed destined to go to the odd goal.

The first half saw Croydon dominating the play, securing a lot of the f possession but not really creating many chances. Will Hoare (Whitgift) and Callum Kennedy (Woodcote) passed and moved the ball very well in midfield but unfortunately Croydon couldn't cause Barnet many problems upfront. Barnet looked dangerous on the break and forced a couple of saves from Scott Millar (Riddlesdown).

It continued to be a close affair after the interval but as the half progressed Barnet began to pose problems for the Croydon defence and went ahead with ten minutes remaining. Croydon fought back, pressing hard for an equaliser, which proved to be elusive.

Manager, Tony Moss, commented: "Whilst this was a disappointing result, the Croydon players should be proud of their achievements. They have produced some good results this season, with some excellent performances We still have the second leg of the Surrey Schools; Cup final to look forward to, having won 8-1 in the first leg, away to Woking".

Croydon Schools' U13s 7  Aldershot  & Farnborough Schools' U13s 1 (6 February 2010)

A superb performance saw Croydon Schools' Football Association's Under 13 borough side progress to the quarter finals of the English Schools' Football Association's national inter-association trophy on Saturday with a convincing 7-1 victory over visitors, Aldershot & Farnborough Schools' at the Postal Ground, Warlingham.

Croydon never looked back from when they went ahead in the second minute of the match when Connor Hunte finished off a speedy run with a fierce unstoppable volley.

It wasn't long before Croydon added another goal after some good work yet again by Hunte who broke wide and crossed for Kyle Spence to score. Croydon continued in attacking mode, particularly down each flank.

After 17 minutes it was 3-0 when Issa Soulemane ran clear of the Aldershot defence to finish well. A fourth goal soon followed on 23 minutes with Soulemane finishing well. Connor Hunte made it 5-0 after a superb pass from Will Hoare (Whitgift) put him clear.

The second half was still competitive as Aldershot continued to work hard, but all their efforts were snuffed out by a well-drilled Croydon defence.

Croydon scored a sixth, ten minutes into the second half after good work by Elan Assian forced the goalkeeper into a good save but Soulemane was on hand to force the ball over the line to complete his hat-trick.

A seventh goal followed five minutes later with some excellent work when the hardworking Kyle Spence laid on a chance for Assiana.

Aldershot pressed for a goal and their hard work was rewarded with a consolation goal five minutes from time.

Croydon manager, Tony Moss, was pleased with the performance and result, but declined to speculate on Croydon's chances to reach the semi-final.

"We'll take each match as it comes" he said.

Croydon can look forward to a home quarter-final against Barnet Schools on the 27 February, at the Postal ground,. Trenham Drive, Warlingham - kick-off: 11am.

Ipswich & South Suffolk Schools' U13s 1  Croydon Schools' U13s 4 (23 January 2010)
English Schools' inter-association trophy

A stirring second half performance by Croydon Schools' Under 13s which saw them recover from a 1-0 half- time deficit to a slightly flattering final score of 4-1, saw them through to a fifth round tie at home to Aldershot & Farnborough Schools at Ipswich on Saturday, away to Ipswich & South Suffolk Schools on Saturday.

Croydon bossed the first half, creating four clear-cut chances, but it was the home side who went ahead, with a cross that rattled the crossbar, bouncing down to beat Croydon's keeper, Scott Millar.

After the break Croydon produced a better performance, waiting patiently to equalise.

It looked as though Croydon's renewed efforts might be thwarted, as the Ipswich keeper saved everything that came his way.

But with twelve minutes remaining, and the clock ticking, Croydon grabbed an equaliser, scored by skipper, Daniel Wickenden (Woodcote), eased in front with a goal by Issa Suleman (The Archbishop Lanfranc), added another from Wickenden and made it 4-1 in stoppage time, as Elian Assiana (Harris South Norwood) completed the scoring.

Woking Schools' Under 13's 1  Croydon Schools' U13's 8 (21 November)

Croydon U13's took on Woking in the 1st leg of the Surrey Cup Final on Saturday at Winston Churchill School in Woking. Woking started quite brightly and in the 10th minute scored a goal when their player floated a ball from just outside the penalty box and with a little help from the wind it looped in to the far corner. This early set back seemed to galvanise Croydon with captain Josh Fuller (Riddlesdown) and Callum Kennedy (Woodcote) beginning to control the midfield Croydon began to carve out chances. When two 'one on ones' went begging it seemed like this game would go like Croydon's recent encounter with Bromley with missed chances costing them. However, Croydon forced a corner and from the resulting kick Stefan Amokwandoh (Whitgift) forced the ball over the line.

Croydon continued to dominate possession. Further goals from Callum Kennedy and two from Issa Soulemane (Archbishop Lanfranc) meant that Croydon had a comfortable lead at the break.

The second half continued much where the first had left off with Croydon dominating possession and when Woking did threaten on the break the defence of Stefan Amakwandoh, Robbie Bin-Luboya (Edenham), Jordan Higgs (St. Josephs) and Jamarl Archer (Oasis Academy Shirley Park) quickly stifled any attack. In the first half Croydon were getting a lot of success centrally with Tuki Tayali (Royal Russell) and Salomon Ducas (Edenham) linking very effectively but in the second half it was from wide that Croydon were creating problems. Some excellent wide play from Jamarl Archer and Harry Boltwood (Riddlesdown) was causing havoc in the Woking defence. Harry Boltwood capped a fine debut by scoring a second half hat-trick and this added to a second goal from Callum Kennedy meant Croydon finished an impressive display with an 8-1 victory.

Croydon Squad:  Scott Miller (Riddlesdown), Jordan Higgs (St. Josephs), Stefan Amakwandoh (Whitgift), Robbie Bin-Luboya (Edenham), Jamarl Archer (Oasis Academy Shirley Park), Issa Soulemane (Archbishop Lanfranc), Harry Boltwood (Riddlesdown), Josh Fuller (Riddlesdown), Callum Kennedy (Woodcote), Tuki Tayali (Royal Russell) and Salomon Ducas (Edenham), Levelle Brown (Oasis Academy Shirley Park)

Bromley Schools' Under 13s 2  Croydon Schools' U13s 0 (14 November)

Croydon Schools' Football Association broke new ground last week when their Under 13 borough side played on an artificial surface – against neighbours, Bromley Schools – at Bishop Justus CE School at Bromley Common on Saturday.

The Under 13 first round English Schools' Football Association's SE England tie was switched at relatively short notice, from the original venue in Beckenham.

Although the match was played in high winds and driving rain, Croydon can have no complaints about the playing surface.

They had initially declined to play on such a surface, but reluctantly agreed to so, especially as a postponement would have led to fixture congestion.

This was an encouraging performance by Croydon and they can count themselves unfortunate to exit from the competition.

Bromley's goalkeeper - pulled off a string of fine saves to deny Croydon, on several occasions dashing out of the Bromley penalty area to dive at the feet of Croydon's attack, whilst at the other end, Scott Millar was a candidate for unemployment benefit.

Bromley went 1-0 up in the 28th minute, capitalising on fatal indecision in the Croydon defence.

It was 2-0 to Bromley when they scored directly from a free-kick outside the penalty, as the ball was whipped high over Millar's head.

Croydon Squad:  Scott Millar, (Riddlesdown), Jordan Higgs (St Joseph's), Robbie Bin Lubaya (Edenham), Stefan O'Connell, Daniel Wickenden, Callum Kennedy (Woodcote), Joel Lumaya (Oasis Shirley Park), Kenny Konrad (St Mary's), Stefan O'Connor (Woodcote), Josh Fuller (Woodcote), Daniel Hector, Kyle Spence, Tre Williams, Issa Soulemane (all The Archbishop Lanfranc)

Brent Schools' U13s 6  Croydon Schools' U13s 2 (17 October)

Croydon Schools' Under 13's played their first competitive match against Brent Schools' in the first round of the London Schools' Football Association's Gill Cup competition on Saturday. But it was a disastrous beginning to their fixture programme, going down 6-2.

Unfortunately the long journey seemed to take its toll on the team because they started very poorly and were not 'switched on' to the game.

The rushed start, due to unforeseen circumstances in which several Croydon players arrived late, didn't help matters and within 40 seconds Croydon were 1-0 down. Two more goals were conceded in the first fifteen minutes as Croydon struggled to get into the game. However, Croydon gradually recovered, with Ben Kamara (St Andrew's) playing very well in the centre of midfield, and beginning to exert some overdue influence.

Croydon scored just before half time through a very well taken goal by Issa Soulemane (The Archbishop Lanfranc) to give them some hope in the second half. Croydon, however, continued to struggle after the interval and conceded three more goals, although Croydon pulled one back via an excellent goal from Ben Kamara.

New team manager, Tony Moss, commented "the team is very talented and does have every opportunity to do well this season. We still have three cup competitions to challenge for and hopefully we can gel together and improve as the season unfolds."

Croydon Squad: Scott Millar, Josh Fuller (both Riddlesdown), Jordan Higgs (St Joseph's), Stefan O'Connoll (Woodcote), Daniel Wickenden (Woodcote), Kyle Spence, Issa Soulemane, Kelvin Thompson (all The Archbishop Lanfranc), Ben Kamara (St Andrew's), Tuki Tayali (Royal Russell), Joel Lumeya, Jamarl Archer (both Oasis Academy Shirley Park), Robbie Bin-Luboya, (Edenham)
