2009/2010 Season - Under 11'sCroydon Schools' Under 11s 1 Bexley Schools' Under 11s 2 (27 February) Croydon Schools' Under 11s exited from the South East England Gills Shield competition on Saturday losing 2-1 against visitors, Bexley Schools in an exciting quarter-final tie at the Croydon Postal ground, Warlingham. Croydon were by far the dominant side in the first half and should have taken the lead when Bryce Hosannah (Elmhurst) surged through on goal only to see his shot skim the outside of the post. Further chances from Fraser Garratt (Ridgeway), Shaun Tock Algar (Gresham) and Hosannah all went begging, with the deadlock unbroken, being goalless at half-time. Bexley came more into the game after the interval. When they broke from midfield and shot on goal, Michael Sibley (Orchard Way) made a fine save which looked like preventing Bexley from going ahead but saw the rebound tapped home. Croydon were unfazed by this setback and pushed forward again, and when Hosannah put Reggie Young (Woodside) clear, Young made no mistake in curling his shot past the Bexley keeper. Young should have made the game safe but was denied by a fine save. It was clear that it wasn't going to be Croydon's day when a mix up at the back led to a scrappy Bexley winner just a minute from time. Croydon Squad: Michael Sibley (Orchard Way), Ryan Hill (Beaumont), Ryan Green (Ryelands), John Snow (Ridgeway), Rejoyden Booysen (Elmwood), Alberto Bassilua (Forestdale), Sam Woods (Elmhurst), Calum Crisp (Trinity), Shaun Tock Algar (Gresham), Bryce Hosannah (Elmhurst), Fraser Garratt (Ridgeway), Richard Pingling (Gilbert Scott), Reggie Young (Woodside), Reis De Meza (Whitgift) Croydon Schools' Under 11s 5 Orpington Schools' Under 11s 0 (23 January 2010) Croydon Schools' Football Association's Under 11s borough side registered a convincing 5-0 win over Orpington Schools' in their inaugural Finch Trophy league fixture at Shelton Sports, Warlingham on Saturday morning. Although Orpington battled hard, the game was always going to go one way and but for an outstanding performance by the Orpington keeper, the margin of victory could have been much higher. Croydon took the lead when top goal scorer, Fraser Garratt (Ridgeway) volleyed home from close range after a cross from man of the match, Alberto Bassilua (Forestdale). Callum Crisp (Trinity), Bryce Hosannah (Elmhurst) and Shaun Tock Algar (Gresham) all came close but it was Bassilua who doubled Croydon's lead when he latched on to a poor clearance, slotting the ball home from outside the box. With Croydon 2-0 up at half time it was a question of how many they were going to score. Garratt notched Croydon's third from a Reiss De Meza (Whitgift) corner and Bassilua got his brace with a fine solo effort. Croydon then missed a penalty after John Snow (Ridgeway) was brought down, but the move of the game came with Croydon's fifth and final goal. It began with right back, Rejoyden Booysen (Elmwood) who's tricky feet helped him out of a tight spot within Croydon's half. He made a neat pass down the wing to Bassilua. Bassilua, beat the full back with ease and played the ball into the path of the ever present Garratt who notched up his second hat- trick of the season. Croydon Squad: Michael Sibley (Orchard Way), John Snow (Ridgeway), Ryan Green (Ryelands), Joshua Anderson (St Peter's), Ryan Hill (Beaumont), Alberto Bassilua (Forestdale), Calum Crisp (Trinity), Bryce Hosannah (Elmhurst), Shaun-Tock Algar (Gresham), Reggie Young (Woodside), Fraser Garratt (Ridgeway), Reiss De Meza (Whitgift), Rejoyden Booysen (Elmwood) Croydon Schools' Under 11s 4 Thanet Schools' Under 11s 1 (12 December) Croydon Schools' Under 11's borough side got back to winning ways with an outstanding 4-1 victory over Thanet Schools at Riddlesdown Collegiate on Saturday, in the English Schools' FA South-East Area Gills Shield competition. Croydon dominated the first half without creating many chances, but shortly before half time they went ahead. Outstanding play from captain Sam Woods (Elmhurst) saw him thread the ball the ball through to Ryan Hill (Beaumont) who then neatly played the ball in to the path of top goal scorer, Fraser Garratt (Ridgeway) who volleyed the ball in to the top right corner of the net. After the break, Croydon wobbled slightly but thanks to stout defending by Lloyd Lyesight (David Livingstone), Josh Anderson (St Pete's) and Ryan Green (Ryelands) they weathered the storm and hit Thanet on the break. Bryce Hosannah (Elmhurst) broke down the right wing and crossed for left winger Shaun Tock-Algar (Gresham) to volley home. Thanet were not perturbed and pulled a goal back but Croydon had the bit between their teeth and an Alberto Bassilua (Forestdale) corner caused havoc in the Thanet defence, resulting in an "own goal". Croydon made the game safe when man of the match, Hosannah, outpaced the Thanet defenders, slotting the ball neatly past the advancing keeper. Croydon Squad: Jack Webb-Olley (Heavers Farm), Lloyd Lyesight (David Livingstone), Joshua Anderson (St Peter's), Ryan Green (Ryelands), John Snow (Ridgeway), Shaun Tock-Algar (Gresham), Sam Woods and Bryce Hosannah (both Elmhurst), Alberto Bassilua (Forestdale), Ryan Hill (Beaumont), Fraser Garratt (Ridgeway), Reggie Young (Woodside) Croydon Schools' U11s 7 Waltham Forest U11s 1 (10 October) Croydon Schools' Football Association's U11 borough side got off to a great start in their London Schools' First Round Crisp Shield away to Waltham Forest at Walthamstow on Saturday. Croydon took an early lead through Ryan Hills (Beaumont). Just minutes later, Hills shot was deflected home by Fraser Garrett (Ridgeway), giving Croydon a 2-0 lead. Garrett tapped home from close range for his second and on the stroke of half-time he grabbed his hat-trick, neatly finishing a through ball from captain Sam Woods (Elmhurst). The second half was a tighter affair and the Croydon keeper, Michael Sibley (Orchard Way) was called into action, making a spectacular one handed save to keep Forest at bay. Garrett smashed home his fourth after a miss-kick from the Forest keeper, to give Croydon a convincing 5-0 lead. Croydon took their foot off the pedal for a while and gave their hosts a chance that keeper Sibley could do nothing about. Croydon were not to be denied their glory, however, and Josh Anderson (St Peter's) headed home a Reiss De Meza (Whitgift) corner and Rejoyden Booyson (Elmwood) played Callum Crisp (Trinity) through for him to drive the ball in to the back of the net making it a 7-1 verdict for the Croydon boys. Croydon Squad: Michael Sibley (Orchard Way), Sean Tock-Algar (Gresham), John Snow (Ridgeway), Ryan Green (Ryelands), Josh Anderson (St Peter's), Rejoyden Booyson (Elmwood), Sam Woods and Bryce Hosannah (both Elmhurst) Callum Crisp (Trinity), Fraser Garratt (Ridgeway). Reiss De Meza (Whitgift), Lloyd Lyseight (David Livingstone), Ryan Hills (Beaumont) Croydon Schools' U11s 4 Orpington U11s 1 (17 October) Croydon's Under 11's continued their winning ways with a 4-1 away win over Orpington Schools in a friendly fixture at Orpington on Saturday, 17 October. Croydon started brightly and went in front with a fierce shot from outside the box by right back, John Snow (Ridgeway). The rest of the first half saw few goal scoring opportunities and Croydon were unlucky to concede an equaliser, when after good work from Orpington's Nathan Linton, Croydon managed to put the ball into their own net. Croydon dominated from this point onwards and went 2-1 up when Fraser Garratt (Ridgeway) tapped home a shot from Alberto Bassilua (Forestdale) that the Orpington keeper was unable to hold. Garratt headed home Croydon's third from a Ryan Hills (Beaumont) cross and Tyreece Scott - Riley (St Mary's) opened his account, making the game safe, with a 4-1 win for Croydon. Croydon Squad: Jack Webb - Olley (Heaver's Farm), Shaun Tock-Algar (Gresham), John Snow and Fraser Garratt (both Ridgeway), Rejoyden Booysen (Elmwood), Ryan Hills (Beaumont), Ryan Green (Ryelands), Josh Anderson (St Peter's), Michael Sibley (Orchard Way), Callum Crisp (Trinity), Sam Woods and Bryce Hosannah (both Elmhurst), Alberto Bassilua (Forestdale), Tyrece Scott-Riley(St Mary's), Lloyd Lyseight (David Livingstone), Reggie Young (Woodside) Croydon Schools' U11s 1 Sutton Schools' U11s 0 Croydon Schools' Football Association's Under 11 borough side edged their way to the South-East finals of the English Schools' Football Association's inter-association 7-a-side competition, when their team defeated neighbours and rivals, Sutton Schools, in an exciting final of the Surrey Schools' county qualifying competition at Woking last week. Croydon had won three of their four games and drew, 0-0 against Sutton The competition rules had to be examined as both Croydon and Sutton were level on points, had scored an equal number of goals and had conceded none. This situation meant that there was a play-off - three minutes each way - with the prospect of the title being decided by a penalty shoot-out if the deadlock could not be broken. But the Croydon boys showed true grit and scored what was to be the decisive goal just a minute in to the play-off. It came from their captain, Sam Woods (Elmhurst) when he was put clear by Fraser Garratt (Ridgeway). Woods rifled the ball home, giving the Sutton keeper, Rob Feeley, no chance. Croydon remained resolute and outstanding performances from keeper Jack Webb-Olley (Heavers Farm), and centre backs Josh Anderson (St Peter's) and Shaun Tock-Algar (Gresham) saw Croydon maintain their clean sheet, in their five matches. Croydon were deserved winners and go on to represent Surrey in the inter- county 7 aside competition in the New Year. Croydon Squad: Jack Webb-Olley (Heavers Farm), Shaun Tock-Algar (Gresham), Josh Anderson (St Peter's), Ryan Hill (Beaumont), Bryce Hosannah and Sam Woods (both Elmhurst), Fraser Garratt (Ridgeway). | ||
