2007/2008 Season - Under 11's

Croydon Schools' Under 11s 2 Sutton Schools' Under 11s 1 (7th May)

Croydon Schools' Football Association's Under 11 borough side retained the Surrey Schools' Lancaster Cup in an entertaining final at Woking last week, defeating neighbours and rivals, Sutton School.

Sutton had most of the possession in the first half but Croydon created the clear cut chances but efforts by Kyle Spence (West Thornton) and Donald Owusu (Davidson) went begging.

After a goalless first half, Croydon began in attacking mode and went ahead after three minutes. Ben Kamara (Parish Church) seized upon a pass from skipper. Will Hoare (Christ Church) inside his own half, dribbled the ball past the Sutton midfield, past the back four and tucked the ball just inside the post.

Croydon grew in confidence but weak finishing again left them down. They had a let-off sixteen minutes into the half when a shot by Lewis Bagshaw (The Avenue) rebounded off the angle of crossbar and upright.

Leading goal scorer, Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong ((St James the Great) made it 2-0, rounding the Sutton 'keeper in the last minute. Sutton got a consolation goal in stoppage time.

Croydon's Under 11s bowed out of the South East area Gills Shield at Mill Lane. Carshalton on Saturday morning, losing 2-0 to rivals Sutton, in the quarter-final.

The first half belonged to Croydon, going twice through Ben Kamara (Parish Church). Another effprt by Ben Kamara was again to the fore, seeing his free kick whistle past an upright.

After the goalless first half a long ball from Sutton tested Croydon's goalkeeper, Scott Millar (The Hayes), who made an excellent initial save, but the ball was edged over the line to put Sutton in front.

Millar made two more saves as Croydon pushed on for an equaliser. Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong (St James the Great) and Donald Owusu (Davidson) had good chances to secure an equaliser, but Sutton gained a second goal in the closing stages.

Croydon Schools' Under 11s 4  Elmbridge Schools' Under 11s 2 (15th March)

Croydon Schools' Football Association' Under 11 borough side continued their successful season with a comfortable 4-2 victory in a friendly match against Elmbridge at Shelton Sports Club on Saturday morning.

Croydon spurned several early chances which fell the way of Kyle Spence (West Thornton), Donald Owusu (Davidson), Jacob Berkeley-Ageypong (St James the Great) and Will Hoare (Christ Church), but a neat finish by Alex Sara (Woodcote) put Croydon ahead.

A free kick from Elmbridge caught the Croydon defence napping to make the score locked at 1-1 at half-time.

Sara got his second, striking home from close range from an Owusu cross. Delayne Pryce (Park Hill) got himself on the score sheet when he neatly rounded the Elmbridge keeper and easily slotted the ball home.

Croydon were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty when Berkeley-Agyepong was brought down but the referee thought otherwise.

Pryce, however, put the game beyond doubt when the Elmbridge goalkeeper had to race out of his area to head the ball clear only for Pryce to coolly loft the ball over his head, making it 4-1.

Croydon took their foot off the pedal and the visitors notched a late consolation goal to make the score 4-2.

Croydon squad:  Scott Millar (The Hayes), Jordan Higgs (Downsview), Stefan Amakwandoh (Greenvale), Stefan O'Connor (Woodcote), Calum Kennedy (Keston), Jacob Berkeley-Ageypong (St James the Great), Will Hoare (Christ Church), Delayne Pryce (Park Hill), Donald Owusu (Davidson), Matthew Bimsong (St James the Great), Kyle Spence (West Thornton), Alex Sara (Woodcote)

Woking Schools' Under 11s 1  Croydon Schools' Under 11s 6 (8th March)

Croydon swamped Woking Schools in a Surrey Schools' FA Sydney Black League away win on Saturday morning.

They took an early lead when Ben Kamara (Parish Church) crossed for Donald Owusu (Davidson) to head over the advancing keeper.

Woking equalised within minutes but Kamara restored the lead with a fine solo effort. This signalled a period of superb inter-passing by Croydon. Jordan Higgs (Downsview) was unlucky not to get his name on the score sheet when his 20 yard effort cannoned off the crossbar but Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong made it 3-1 to Croydon at the interval with a low left-footed drive from close range.

Croydon dominated the second half, with their back four defenders being rarely troubled. Owusu tapped home for his second goal and then Ben Kamara scored the goal of the game with a powerful low left-footed drive from the edge of the penalty area that gave the Woking keeper no chance.

It could have been a hatful for Croydon but it wasn't until just before the final whistle that Croydon made it 6-1 when Stefan O'Connor (Woodcote) brought the ball from defence and sent Berkeley-Agyepong (St James the Great) away to put a clinical finish to an impressive performance by Croydon.

Barking & Dagenham Schools' U11s 1  Croydon Schools' U11s 0 (16th February)

A solitary own goal was sufficient to enable hosts Barking & Dagenham Schools to qualify for the final of the London Schools' Football Association's Crisp Shield competition at Dagenham on Saturday morning.

The first half was goalless, but Croydon created several good scoring opportunities with speedy striker Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong (St James the Great) posing problems for Barking's defence.

Ben Kamara (Parish Church) was in the thick of things, using his superior height and strength to carve a way through the home midfield.

Kamara shot wide in the seventh minute of the second half but a minute later the Essex boys went ahead after a goalmouth scramble which ended in the "own goal".

Croydon strove hard to get back on level terms and applied pressure in the closing stages. Kyle Spence (West Thornton) and Delayne Pryce (Park Hill) went close to earning extra-time in a grandstand finish but the home side held on to their 1-0 victory.

Croydon took an early lead when skipper Will Hoare (Christ Church) put through Alex Sara (Woodcote). Within a minute, it was 2-0 when Paul Jackson netted from close range.

Sara got his second, rounding the keeper and neatly slotting the ball home. Kyle Spence (West Thornton) saw a shot deflected to make it 4-0 Delayne Price (Park Hill) set up a chance for Spence who calmly lofted the ball over the advancing keeper.

Croydon scored four more goals after the interval score of 5-0. Spence headed home for his hat-trick, Donald Owusu (Davidson) fired in a shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Hoare and leading goal scorer Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong (St James the Great) complete the scoring.  A fine save by Croydon keeper, Scott Millar (The Hayes) in the dying stages denied the plucky home team a consolation goal.

Croydon Schools' Under 11s 3 Dover Schools' Under 11s 1 (26th January)

Croydon Schools' earned themselves an away tie against neighbours and rivals, Sutton, in the second round of the South-East area Gills Shield, with a comfortable 3-1 win over visitors, Dover Schools at Shelton Sports, Warlingham on Saturday morning.

Croydon went ahead early in the game, when Will Hoare (Christ Church) crossed for leading goalscorer, Jacob Berkeley Agyepong (St James the Great) to score. Shortly afterwards Berkeley-Agyepong scored his second, with a floated shot over the 'keeper's head and into the top right hand corner.

Numerous chances were created by Croydon and it was no surprise when Donald Owusu (Davidson) scored from the edge of the penalty area, to put Croydon 3-0 up at half-time.

Dover reduced the arrears but Croydon were in no mood to let go, and were worthy winners.

Croydon squad:  Scott Millar (The Hayes), Jordan Higgs (Downsview), Stefan O'Connor (Woodcote), Stefan Amakwondah (Greenvale), Calum Kennedy (Keston), Delayne Pryce (Park Hill), Will Hoare (Christ Church), Paul Jackson (Davidson), Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong (St James the Great), Donald Owusu (Davidson), Kyle Spence (West Thornton), Keshon Mills (Parish Church)

Croydon Schools' U11s 3  Harlow & West Essex Schools' U11s 0 (15th December)

A smartly taken hat-trick by Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong (St James the Great School) saw Croydon Schools' Football Association's Under 11s get back to winning wasy to record a comfortable 3-0 win in this London Schools' Crisp Shield second round tie, against Harlow & West Essex at Shelton Sports & Leisure, Warlingham, on Saturday morning, and so earn themselves a place in the semi-final.

Croydon were rarely troubled in the first half, with Ben Kamara (Parish Church), Will Hoare (Christ Church) and Delayne Price (Park Hill) commanding the midfield play, with Price particularly outstanding.

He sent the diminutive Berkeley-Agyepong away for Croydon's first goal after only five minutes, tucking the ball neatly under the advancing keeper.  Croydon looked capable of building on their lead but several chances were wasted before they made it 2-0 nine minutes before half time.

The visitors rallied after the break, but found Croydon's back four resolute.  It looked all over when Berkeley-Agyepong sealed his hat trick and if it had not been for further wasted opportunities Croydon could have swamped the Essex boys.

Sutton Schools' U11s 3  Croydon Schools' U11s 2 (17th November)

Croydon Schools' Football Association's Under 11 borough team crashed to their first defeat of the season in a highly competitive contest against neighbours and rivals, Sutton, at Carshalton ending up on the wrong side of a 3-2 score line.

Sutton had the better of the first half and scored early on from a set piece. Croydon had a couple of chances to level but Ben Kamara's shots were finely saved by the Sutton keeper.  Sutton went 2-0 up and Croydon should have pulled one back when Kamara's shot was parrie and the ball ran into the path of Donald Owusu who only had to place the ball into an empty net but he blazed his shot over the cross bar.

Croydon came more into the game in the second half but were finding it hard to get past an in-form Sutton keeper until at last Kamara forced his way into the Sutton penalty area and saw his volley go low into the corner of the net.

Croydon continued to push for the equaliser but it was Sutton who grabbed a third goal from another corner.  Kamara grabbed his brace shortly before the end but it was too little too late and Croydon had to settle for second best.

Croydon's Under 11s' 3-0 win over Elmbridge & Runnymede saw them through to the Surrey Schools' Football Association's Lancaster Cup Final, at Shelton Sports, Warlingham on Saturday morning.

Croydon dominated the match throughout, but the ice failed to be broken until the 15th minute when Delayne Price (Park Hill) forged his way into the visitors' penalty area and finished well, lashing the ball into the roof of the net.

Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong (St James the Great) broke through the Elmbridge defence on the stroke of half-time, and calmly placed the ball under the advancing Elmbridge goalkeeper.

Berkeley-Agepong grabbed a third for Croydon after half-time.

Croydon Schools' Under 11s continued on their winning ways with an embarrassing 13-1 victory over visitors, Godalming Schools at Shelton Sports, Warlingham on Saturday morning in a Surrey Schools' Sydney Black League fixture.

Goals by Paul Jackson (Davidson), and two from Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong (St James the Great) set Croydon on the goal trail, putting them 3-0 up within the first five minutes, and further strikes by Alex Sara (Woodcote), Jordan Higgs (Downsview), Donald Owusu (Davidson) and Matthew Bimpong (St James the Great) made it 7-0 at half-time.

Godalming scored what proved to be a consolation goal shortly after the break, but Croydon continued to pile on the pressure and added to their total with further goals from Tuki Tayli (Royal Russell), Calum Kennedy (Keston), Owusu and skipper, Will Hoare (Christ Church).

Berkeley-Agyepong completed the scoring, notching his hat-trick shortly before the end.

Croydon Schools' U11s 3 Sutton Schools' U11s 2 (20th October)

Croydon Schools' Football Association edged their way through to the second round of the London Schools' Crisp Shield after a closely-contested first round tie against neighbours and rivals, Sutton Schools, at Shelton Sports, Warlingham, on Saturday, winning 3-2.

Croydon took an early lead when Ben Kamara (Parish Church) laid on a pass for Donald Owusu (Davidson) to score from close range but Sutton equalized, following a free-kick which was drilled home via Dominic Shaw (Bandon Hill) through a crowded goalmouth.

But Croydon broke back and were ahead again inside 17 minutes. A neat passing movement, involving Calum Kennedy (Keston) and Kamara ended with Owusu grabbing his second goal. But for a brave save by Croydon goalkeeper, Scott Miller (The Hayes), Sutton would have gone into half-time on level terms.

Sutton - although trailing 2-1 - were still very much in the game, and drew level shortly after the break when slack defensive work allowed Sutton to make it 2-2.

Ben Kamara (Parish Church) shot Croydon ahead halfway through the second period, as the home side got on top , but fine saves from the Sutton keeper prevented Croydon from widening the margin.

Croydon will be at home to Harlow & West Essex in the quarter-final.

Croydon Schools' Under 11s 5 Woking Schools' Under 11s 5 (6th October)

Croydon Schools' Football Association got their competitive cup fixtures underway with a precious point in a ding-dong Surrey Schools' Sydney Black league match at Shelton Sports, Warlingham, which finished 5-5.

Croydon hit back from a goal by visitors, Woking, in the first minute, with Ben Kamara (Parish Church) equalising, finishing off a fine solo run after five minutes, and nosed ahead when a Kamara corner was met on the volley by Donald Owusu (Davidson).

Kamara made it 3-1 to Croydon with a fine left foot shot from outside the penalty area and at this stage Croydon threatened to overwhelm Woking.  But two defensive lapses by Croydon let Woking in to make it 3-3 at half-time.

The tempo continued after the break, Woking twice edged ahead but each time Kamara put Croydon back on level terms.  With time running out, Kamara scored a "wonder" goal, somehow curling the ball into the top corner of the goal form way out at the corner flag. This finished the scoring.

"Honours were even. This was a fair result" quipped Croydon Manager, Fiona Armfield, after the whistle.

Croydon Schools U11's began their current season's campaign with a gruelling encounter against South London, just edging the game in the final minute.

It was the first run out for both sides and this showed when a mix up in the Croydon defence lead to South London taking an early lead from a corner.

Croydon rallied and had several chances to equalize but had trouble with the South London offside trap. However, just before the break clever play from Delayne Pryce (Park Hill) created a chance for Kyle Spence (West Thornton) who finished neatly.

The second half was much the same as the first. being fiercely contested in midfield and chances falling to both sides. It wasn't until the final minute when Paul Jackson (Davidson) sent Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong (St James the Great) away who left he South London defence in his wake and rounded the keeper to slot the ball home, giving Croydon a narrow win.
