2008/2009 Season - Under 16's

Croydon Schools' U16's 1   Waltham Forest Schools' U16's 0

No fewer than nine players from Ashburton Community School, including Palace Academy player and England international Ibra Sekajja, were included in the Croydon Schools' Football Association's Under 16 squad which took on Waltham Forest Schools' at Croydon Arena last week (22 April) in the quarter final of the London Schools' FA Hawke Trophy.

A single goal - a clever lob by Selsdon High School's Juevan Spencer as early as the third minute was sufficient to see Croydon through in an entertaining hard-fought encounter.

Croydon suffered some anxious moments in the first half, but goalkeeper Nathan Headley (Ashburton), recalled to the squad after an absence of two years was in superb form. When he had to leave the field, injured midway through the second period, centre back, Harry Osborne took over in goal, but had little to do as Croydon held firm and turned the screw.

Croydon entertain Redbridge at home in the semi-final. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, 13 May, at Shelton Sports, Warlingham, with a 6pm kick-off.
