2005/2006 Season - Under 16's

Havering Schools' U16s  3   Croydon Schools' U16s  3 (after extra-time) (11th May)

Croydon Schools' Football Association's Under 16s returned from a battling encounter in the London Schools' Hawke Trophy Final against Havering at Hornchurch Football Club, Upminster on 11th May with a share of the trophy, as an exciting final finished 3-3 after extra-time.

Croydon twice came from behind, and although reduced to ten men 30 minutes into the second half snatched a dramatic extra-time equaliser three minutes before the finish.  But the result was not without its downside, as three Croydon players received yellow cards, and Tom Ince got his marching orders following an incident which involved a group of players from both sides. Two yellow cards were also issued to the Essex boys.

There was little to choose between the two teams - both playing their last matches for their respective boroughs, but Havering went ahead in the 31st minute and made it 2-0 four minutes later with a goal that Croydon claimed was offside.

Team managers, Niall Attenborough (Shirley) and David Millar (Haling Manor) in charge for the last time, after five years at the helm of this squad, kept the Croydon boys on the pitch at half-time but although they were far from impressed with Croydon's lacklustre first half performance kept the same line-up for the second half.

It was a different story after the break as Croydon stormed back. Jake Stewart (Coulsdon) was substituted for Nasif Lugolobu (Ashburton) and Earl Davis (Archbishop Tenison's) came on for Marc Dowdeswell (Edenham) shortly after Dowdeswell had gone close with a short-range header.

Croydon reduced the arrears twelve minutes into the second half when Lugolobu neatly controlled a cross from Jeremiah Olusanya (St Joseph's).

It was no surprise when Richard White (Harris CTC) made it 2-2 halfway through the half, with a deft header, but Croydon made their task all the more difficult when Ince (The Archbishop Lanfranc) was shown the red card and yellow cards were issued to Jack Walker (Edenham) and Joe Longworth (Whitgift).

Havering went ahead in the first minute of extra-time but Croydon again shocked their hosts, who also received two yellow cards, with an equaliser by Robert Richards (St Mary's) three minutes before the end.

Attenborough said "The Croydon boys showed a lot of character, having only played two matches all season. The quality of the squad and a strong bench made all the difference and we showed a lot of character, despite the disciplinary problems.  It was nice to finish as team managers with a share of the trophy".

A first half hat trick by Jeremiah Olusanya put Croydon Schools' Under 16s in to the final of the London Schools' Football Association's Hawke Trophy Competition, after a convincing 4-1 win in an ill-tempered semi-final against a nine player strong Blackheath Schools' side at Kidbrooke on Saturday morning.

The home side played nine boys behind the ball but Olusanya put Croydon 2-0 ahead and Tom Ince (The Archbishop Lanfranc) made it 3-0, before Olusanya completed his hat trick in the first half.

Blackheath netted a consolation goal after the break and also recruited another player, whilst Croydon introduced four substitutes all of whom were making their Croydon Schools debuts.
