2005/2006 Season - Under 15'sCroydon Schools' U15s 0 Blackheath Schools' U15s 1 (22nd April)Croydon's Under 15s can count themselves unlucky to have been ousted by a solitary goal in the quarter final of the London Schools' Football Association's Corinthian Shield at Greenacres, Warlingham on Saturday morning. Croydon started the match brightly but Blackheath gradually got on top and went ahead after 30 minutes. Both teams spurned good second half chances and Croydon manager, Andrew Cook declared after the match:
Croydon squad: Martin Bruce (Archbishop Tenison's), Daniel Aldous (Edenham), Reece Stanton (Ashburton), Charlie Ottaway (St Joseph's), Louis Headley (Ashburton), Jenson Grant (Shirley), Aaron Kelly (St Joseph's), Michael Hunt (Coulsdon), Sonni James (Riddlesdown), Karl Douglin (Ashburton), Aaron Thompson (Selsdon), Luke White (Edenham), Gerard Akosa (Haling Manor) Aldershot & Farnborough Schools' U15s 2 Croydon Schools' U15s 1 (18th March)Croydon's Under 15s can count themselves unlucky to have bowed out of the Surrey Schools' Invitation Cup semi-final at Farnborough (Hants) on Saturday morning, losing 2-1 to Aldershot & Farnborough Schools in a closely-contested match. Croydon had the better of the first half, even though they were facing a bitterly cold strong wind, playing some delightful football and concentrating on a short passing game, which kept the home keeper busy. Sonni James (Riddlesdown) set up a chance for Nathaniel Penny (Selsdon) to put Croydon 1-0 up, shortly after the break, only for Aldershot & Farnborough to equalise within three minutes, after a defensive lapse.
Both teams endeavoured to master the conditions, striving for the lead, but it was the home side took the lead, via a soft goal, with six minutes left. Croydon applied tremendous pressure and looked to have equalised with the ball in the net in stoppage time, following a corner, but Croydon's joy was short-lived because the effort was ruled out by the assistant referee, who had spotted that the ball had gone out of play. Croydon's manager, Andrew Cook paid tribute to his patched-up squad:
Croydon squad: Martin Bruce (Archbishop Tenison's), Aaron Thompson (Selsdon), Louis Headley (Ashburton), Jenson Grant (Shirley), Luke White (Edenham), Aaron Kelly (St Joseph's), Michael Hunt (Coulsdon), Gerard Akosa (Haling Manor), Sonni James (Riddlesdown), Karl Douglin (Ashburton), Nathaniel Penny (Selsdon), Danny Baldwinson (Harris CTC), Jordan Armstrong (Riddlesdown) Croydon Schools' Under 15s 3 Brent Schools' Under 15s 2 (after extra-time) (10th December)Croydon Schools' Under 15s bounced back from their recent English Schools' Trophy defeat to dump visitors, Brent out of the London Schools' Football Association's Corinthian Shield competition, turning a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 win in a first round tie at Greenacres Sports & Leisure Club, Warlingham on Saturday morning. Sonny James (Riddlesdown) grabbed the winner for a Croydon side deprived of several regulars, four minutes before the end of extra-time. Croydon produced a gritty, fighting performance, in a closely fought encounter in which the robust Brent side received two yellow cards. Aaron Kelly (St Joseph's) netted twice to take the match into extra-time. Michael Hunt (Coulsdon) was outstanding for Croydon, in centre midfield. Croydon squad: Baldwinson (Harris CTC), Aldous (Edenham), Ottaway (St Joseph's), Stanton (Ashburton), Kelly (St Joseph's), James (Riddlesdown), Grant (Shirley), Hunt (Coulsdon), Bevis (Selhurst), Douglin (Ashburton), Penny (Selsdon), Nichol (Riddlesdown) Croydon Schools' Under 15s 1 Bromley Schools' Under 15s 3 (29th November)Croydon's Under 15s bowed out of the English Schools' FA's NUT inter-association trophy at Chipstead Football Club on Tuesday losing 3-1 to neighbours, Bromley, in an entertaining third round tie in difficult, cold conditions. Although Croydon took the lead after 20 minutes, Bromley hit back within two minutes and scored twice more, with striker, George Mosedale (Hayes) registering a splendid hat-trick. There was little to choose between the two teams in the first twenty minutes, although Bromley looked dangerous in their attacking moves. Croydon went ahead when Douglin's long range shot was only parried by the Bromley keeper and Nathaniel Penny (Selsdon) was on hand to slide in the rebound with a well-taken left-footed strike. Croydon failed to clear a Bromley corner and Mosdale scored from close range, to make it 1-1 only two minutes later. Bromley went ahead four minutes from the half-time break. Although Croydon began the second half with an encouraging display, Mosedale sealed his hat-trick midway through the half and Croydon were left with too much to do, Bromley going through, 3-1. Croydon squad: Danny Baldwinson (Harris CTC), Reece Stanton (Ashburton), Arron Thompson (Selsdon), Charlie Ottaway (St Joseph's), Hakeen Adelakun (Tenison's), Curtis Wayne (St Joseph's), Sonny James (Riddlesdown), Sean Scannell (Ashburton), Nathaniel Penny (Selsdon), Karl Douglin (Ashburton), Tyrone Cassius (Harris CTC), Luke White (Edenham), Michael Boateng, Springett (both Tenison's), Kelly (St Joseph's), Abi Benis (Selhurst) Croydon Schools' U15s 4 South London Schools' U15s 1 (9th November)A robust performance by Croydon Schools' Football Association's Under 15s earned them a place in the third round of the English Schools' Football Association's NUT inter-association competition when they were 4-1 winners over neighbours, South London Schools, at Croydon Athletic last Wednesday week. Croydon began the match in positive mood and were unlucky not to take an early lead when a Sean Scannell (Ashburton) shot rattled the crossbar after six minutes. South London failed to capitalise on several chances and it was no surprise when Croydon nosed ahead after 27 minutes. Diminutive Karl Douglin (Ashburton) turned a defender inside out three times before slipping the ball across the penalty area to Scannell, who made no mistake from an unmarked position. Further chances fell Croydon's way but Nathaniel Penny (Selsdon) shot over the crossbar and Tyrone Cassius (Harris CTC) headed over, from good openings. Danny Baldwinson (Harris CTC) made a good save, low to his left, six minutes before half-time but South London equalised two minutes later to see the teams tied at 1-1 at the break. Croydon got an unexpected bonus in the first minute of the second half, when South London conceded a spectacular headed "own goal" from a corner. Croydon went further ahead through Penny and a fine left foot effort by Cassius, in a two goal flurry on 49 and 52 minutes. South London refused to surrender but they were their own worst enemy as they eschewed several chances, some from close range, and Croydon were home and dry to secure a third round tie against Bromley Schools, which has been arranged for Tuesday, 29th November at Chipstead Football Club (7.30pm). Croydon Manager, Andrew Cook (Archbishop Tenison's), singled out Douglin and Scannell for their fire power up front, but also paid tribute to his team's all-round performance. "We started well, and never gave up. This was a good performance and a good result, inflicting a rare defeat on this South London squad" he said. Croydon squad: Danny Baldwinson (Harris CTC), Reece Stanton (Ashburton), Charlie Ottaway (St Joseph's), Daniel Aldous (Edenham), Luke White (Edenham), Sonny James (Riddlesdown), Sean Scannell (Ashburton), Nathaniel Penny (Selsdon), Karl Douglin (Ashburton), Tyrone Cassius (Harris CTC), Aaron Thompson (Selsdon), Aaron Kelly (St Joseph's), Joe Springett (Archbishop Tenison's). Croydon Schools' U15s 1 Brighton Schools' U15s 2 (19th October)A hectic final flourish was not enough to prevent Croydon Schools' Under 15s being eclipsed by visitors, Brighton, at Croydon Arena last Wednesday, losing 2-1 in a closely fought encounter. Brighton took a lead in the 17th minute against the run of play and although Croydon produced several chances they were unable to get back on level terms before the interval. A fine individual goal by Shaun Scannell (Ashburton) made it 1-1. The tall Croydon player left several players in his wake as he weaved his way goal wards, from just inside his own half, and finished off with a good strike from 10 yards out. But a defensive blunder allowed Brighton in for what turned out to be the winner, soon afterwards. Croydon should have scored in a frantic last five minutes, but three good chances were squandered. Croydon squad: Baldwinson (Harris CTC), Boateng (Archbishop
Tenison's), Stanton (Ashburton), Ottaway (St Joseph's), Aldous (Edenham), Wayne
(St Joseph's), Scannell (Ashburton), Turner (Edenham), Douglin (Ashburton)Cassius
