Primary School League Championship 2005/2006

Royal Russell  v  Beulah (15th May)

Royal Russell Prep School pulled off a remarkable double when they added the Croydon Schools' FA Primary School League Championship Trophy title to their recent success against Whitgift in the Primary Schools Cup, when they registered a narrow 1-0 win over Beulah Junior School at Royal Russell's ground on Monday.

The match was witnessed by over 200 spectators, with the Royal Russell urged on by dozens of pupils, including a group of cheerleaders.

An own goal by the Beulah goalkeeper four minutes from time was sufficient to see the South Croydon boys through. The goal came in unusual circumstances, as the keeper, failed to head clear a back pass from one of his defenders, and could only divert the ball into his own net.

It was a bitter pill to swallow for the Thornton Heath boys who had enjoyed most of the play, without scoring. John Kabula in the thick of things, hitting a post. Royal Russell were fortunate that referee, Patrick Haugh, ruled out a goal two minutes after half-time, when a shot from Warren Thomas hit a post and the crossbar before being cleared.

The 95 years old shield was presented to the winners by CSFA Vice-Chairman, Peter Westlake.
