Secondary League Finals

Croydon Schools' Cricket Association overcame the showers last week and staged the finals of four inter- secondary school cup competitions.

Under 14 Final

St Joseph's College registered a convincing win over Woodcote High School on Tuesday (July 8th) to win the Croydon Schools' Cricket Association's Under 14 League final at Trinity School's Sandilands ground.

Facing a challenging total of 155 made by Woodcote, with David Scott scoring 56 and Javid Khan 30, St Joseph's opening partnership of Brandon Kenlock and Michael Edwards put on 130 in 17 overs, before Edwards was out for 42.

Under 12 Final

The Under 12 Final took place at Whitgift School, Haling Park on Tuesday.

Whitgift posted a challenging total of 175 off their 25 overs.  Shirley High were all out for 135, with the innings being brought to a conclusion with a "hat-trick" by swing bowler, William Blease.

Under 13 Final

Riddlesdown's Under 13s shone on a rainy day on Wednesday, outclassing Whitgift on their own patch, with a nine wicket victory.

Matters looked ominous for Riddlesdown as Whitgift began their innings, scoring 10 an over in the first few overs.

But Riddlesdown's heads didn't drop, and after the first wicket fell, with the score on 48 they stepped up their efforts with tight bowling and keen fielding that ensured that wickets fell steadily.

Whitgift were bustled out for 123 in the seventeenth over. Opener, Andrew Magill hit ten boundaries on his way to a fine 65 not out, well supported by Tyler Ward (34) as the Purley boys reached their target for the loss of only one wicket, in only fourteen overs.

Haling Manor won the toss and invited Harris Academy to bat.  Harris's opening pair made a steady start, with a stand of 61 from 14 overs.  Fisher scored 18 and Cook 29.  Harris were restricted to 112 for four off their maximum 25 overs.  Raffiullah Ahmadi was the best of Manor's bowlers, returning impressive figures of 2 for 9 off 5 overs.
