Under 16s - 2007 Season

Croydon Schools Under 16s 186 for 9  -  Waltham Forest Schools Under 16s 186 for 7 (24th July)

Croydon Schools Cricket Association's Under 16s shared the honours with Waltham Forest in an exciting last over, in the idyllic surroundings of Arundel Castle, West Sussex which resulted in a tie, as the scores were level.

Nine runs were needed off the last over of this 40 overs a side encounter, and three runs were required for victory for the Essex boys off the last ball, but Croydon managed to restrict their opponents to two scrambled runs.

Forest's opener, Michael Gymer, denied Croydon victory, finishing on 105 not out, as Forest paced their reply to near-perfection, accelerating from a tea-time score of 48 for 2 off 19 overs, which meant a run-rate of over six runs per over, for victory.

Croydon's total of 186 for nine was built on a second wicket partnership of 90 runs between Jon Coles (Archbishop Tenison's)(30) and Fahran Hasan (Trinity)(62).

Hasan, in particular, played some splendid shots on a slow outfield, and was well supported by Coles, who was content to play a minor role, but both lost their wicket at a vital time, on the stroke of lunch as Croydon posted a score of 98 for 3 off 24 overs at the break.

Wickets fell as Croydon pushed along to post a challenging total, with Aman Shinwari (Stanley Technical) leading the way with a quick 30, and 17 not out by Lee Padfield (Woodcote) in Croydon's useful total of 186 for 9.

Croydon had to work hard for their wickets, with opening pace bowlers, George Edwards (St Joseph's) - 1 for 25 off seven overs, and Lee Padfield (Woodcote) 1 for 28 run off seven overs - good figures in the context of the match.  Padfield took a stunning one handed diving catch and skipper, Omar Green (St Joseph's) weighed in with three catches, behind the wicket as Croydon strived to restrict their opponents but Forest were in defiant mood.

Croydon hit back through spinner David Firth (Trinity who) grabbed two wickets in his fourth over, but Croydon were unable to dislodge Gymer and the game slipped from their grasp.
