Croydon Schools' U11s 75 for 8  -  Mole Valley Schools' U11s 66 for 9

A battling performance by Croydon Schools' Under 11s saw them edge through to the final of the Surrey Schools' Cricket Association's Prosser-Hansford Cup competition in a low-scoring semi-final at Effingham Cricket Club on Thursday.

In a 22 overs a side encounter, Croydon got off to a promising start, reaching 40 for 2 off eight overs, thanks to confident cricket by skipper, Olly Thornton (Woodcote) (10) and Mus awar Ahmed (St Peter's)(14) but wickets fell steadily and Croydon's total of 75 when the innings closed.

Although Croydon took early wickets, when Mole Valley replied, the game was in the melting pot, with the home side on 48 for 4. But Croydon turned the screw, restricting the opposition to a further eighteen runs in the final five overs, thus securing victory by nine runs, and a place in the final against Woking.

Croydon Schools' Cricket Association's Under 11s borough side fought all the way in their Surrey Schools' Prosser-Hansford Trophy Final at Epsom College last week against a strong Woking Schools Under 11 side but never recovered from a slow start.

Openers Musawar Ahmed (St Peter's) and Samad Suleman (Woodcote) could only muster 25 runs off the first 11 overs in a 24 overs a side encounter, and this put pressure on the later batsman, against some tight bowling and keen fielding, with Croydon finishing on 76 for 8.

Only skipper, Ollie Thornton (Woodcote) reached double figures (10) after the promising Ahmed had departed for 11.

Although Croydon nipped in with two early wickets, reducing Woking to 6 for 2, the Surrey boys lost only one further wicket and eased home with 8 overs to spare, to win by 7 wickets.
