Croydon Schools Cricket Association2006 SeasonCroydon Schools' Under 15s 186 for 6 - South London Schools' Under 15s 187 for 2 (19th July)Croydon Schools' Cricket Association's bid to reclaim the Jack Hobbs Trophy came unstuck at The Brit Oval when they were soundly beaten by eight wickets by South London. Croydon got off to a good start, reaching 90 for 2 off 18 overs but a security alert meant the ground was evacuated for 45 minutes. Consequently the match was reduced from its usual 40 overs per side to 34. This meant that there was additional pressure to accelerate in order to set a challenging target for South London - drawn from pupils at schools in Lambeth, Southwark and Wandsworth. Trinity School pair, Farhan Hassan (37) and David Firth (32) were the pick of the Croydon batsmen, with useful contributions from Louis Sprosen (Harris CTC)(22) and captain, Vishal Patel (The Archbishop Lanfranc)(23 not out) which enabled Croydon to reach 186 for 6. South London made light of their task, with Dulwich College pair, Tom Deasy and Tom Eaden putting on 105 for the first wicket. Deasy scattered the field, hitting 12 boundaries in his 84. Croydon used seven bowlers in a concerted team effort, but South London lost only one more wicket, reaching their target with four overs to spare.
Croydon: Farhan Hassan, Nilesh Patel, David Firth, Arjun Green (all Trinity), Jon Coles (Archbishop Tenison's), Louis Sprosen (Harris CTC), Lee Padfield, Kumal Walji (both Woodcote), Vishal Patel (The Archbishop Lanfranc), Alistair Lobo, George Evans, Omar Green (all St Joseph's College).
