London Active Partnership Athletics Development Plan 2002-2007

The implementation of the Active Sports Athletics Development Plan for London Active Partnership will aim to achieve the following:

Stage One: Local Schemes

  • We will seek to ensure increasing numbers of young people from priority groups receive quality coaching opportunities to improve further personal development from School activities through to established Clubs supported by UKA Clubs: Future programme.

Stage Two: Club Development

  • We will support clubs to develop strategies and measures to proactively include priority groups within their membership
  • In UKA Clubs: Future accredited Clubs a target of a minimum 50% of the overall club membership to be women or girls
  • Across all clubs we will seek to ensure that at least 5% of members are disabled people
  • Across all clubs we will seek to ensure that at least 20% of members are from ethnic minority groups
  • We will develop strategies and measures to increase access to athletics clubs for young people from priority wards

Stage Three: Assessment

  • We will seek to ensure that at least 50% of young people meeting the selection criteria are girls
  • We will conduct annual reviews to measure the representation from ethnic groups and from priority wards
  • Disabled athletes will be given access to Stage Four opportunities against the appropriate criteria set through equity standards Stage Four: Partnership Squads
  • We will seek to ensure that 50% of participants will be girls
  • We will monitor increases in participation by young people from ethnic minorities and from priority wards

Coaches, Volunteers and Officials

  • The Partnership through this Athletics Development Plan acknowledges the need to increase the number of qualified UKA club coaches and officials, particularly from priority groups. The plan aims to ensure;
  • At least 10% of the coaches working on our programme will be women and we will endeavour to increase the number of women qualified as UKA Coaches of all Levels on a year on year basis.
  • Provide support for disabled coaches to increase the number of disabled coaches working with young participants
  • Support for coaches from ethnic minority groups in order to sustain the high profile of ethnic minorities in athletics
  • 30% of coaches working in the programme will be from priority wards with high levels of deprivation
