What will I find at my local Croydon library?

Why not come and visit your local library where you will find

Who can join?

Everyone can join a Croydon Library so come and visit us. Click here to find the address of your local library.

  • Adults
  • Children including tickets for babies and toddlers
  • Childminders - you need to be a registered childminder
  • Home educators. The child or children must be registered with the Local Authority

How do I join Croydon libraries?

There is no form to fill in. All you need to do is bring 1 item of identity (I.D.) showing your name and address, for example

  • driving licence
  • bank statement
  • utility bill
  • benefit book
  • children and young people under the age of 16 need their parent or guardian to sign their ticket

Do I have to pay to join the library?

  • No. It is free for you to join the library and to borrow books.
  • You only have to pay if you borrow DVDs, Videos, CDs, CD Roms, or talking books.
  • You will also have to pay 15p a day fine on any item if you forget to return it or renew it on time.
  • There are no charges for children’s and large print books.

What can I borrow from Croydon libraries?

If you are an adult you can borrow:

  • 9 books (4 week loan)
  • 6 CDs (4 week loan)
  • 6 Videos or DVDs (one week loan)
  • 9 talking books (4 week loan)

Children can borrow:

  • 9 items - books and talking books

What is available for children and young people?

If you have children there is plenty for them to do and to borrow at their local library.

For younger children there are:

  • board books and picture books
  • baby rhyme time sessions
  • wiggle and jiggle sessions

For older children there are:

  • Story books and information books
  • Story time sessions
  • Activities children in the holidays
  • Family Reading Groups - parents and carers with their children meet to discuss books
  • Chatterbox reading groups - reading groups for children aged between 8 and 11 years
  • Teenage reading groups
  • Homework Help Clubs

Can I use a computer in the library?

  • Why not visit the library and use the computers. Children need to be accompanied by an adult.
  • All Croydon libraries offer free access to the internet and word processing
  • There is a charge for print outs
  • Occasionally there are computer classes that take place in the Central Library
  • For computer classes please contact the Central Library for further information. Telephone 020 8726 6900 and ask to speak to the library staff on Level 2.

Can I receive help on looking for a job and completing my C.V.?
