There are many adults whose dyslexia is only discovered much later in life and others who simply don't realise they are dyslexic.

Knowing is important - it is only when you understand your dyslexia that you can find the right help and maximise your potential.

The Adult Support Group offers advice, information and help to dyslexic people, their families and the professionals who support them.

Indicators of Dyslexia:

  • Making mistakes when writing cheques
  • Confusing telephone numbers and PIN numbers
  • Poor spelling
  • Mixing up dates and times
  • Difficulty completing forms
  • Confusing bus numbers i.e. 95 and 59
  • Difficulty saying months of year
  • Difficulty telling left from right
  • Reading a page from a book takes longer
  • Difficulty with reading and saying long words

Problems with several of the above may possibly be an indicator of dyslexia.

Where to get an assessment:

CALAT

  • If you are registered to take a course through Croydon Council's many adult learning classes, free dyslexia assessment is available by contacting Jean Kennedy.
  • Tel: 020 8253 8560. This includes evening classes as well as those for improving your English and maths (life and basic skills).

Dyslexia Action

Helen Arkell Dyslexia Centre
