Alderman James Trumble, J.P. (1856-1941)![]() Alderman Trumble was a member of the Council since 1893; an
Alderman since 1905; added to the Commission of the Peace for the borough in
1906, Mayor of Croydon for the four years 1910-1912 and 1933-1935, and
admitted an Honorary Freeman of the Borough in 1912. Alderman Trumble's services to Croydon spans half a century. His work during the town's period of adolescence, contributed greatly to the laying of the bricks of the foundation upon which Croydon now rears her lofty head. His work for the blind alone accorded him a niche in Croydon's temple of fame and his intensely human work in dealing with the distressed poor who came before the Public Assistance Committee, was well known. Croydon gave this highly esteemed 'father' of the Council, the Freedom of the Borough and the honour of making him its Chief Magistrate.
