Cupid and Eros in MythologyCupid, the winged child with the bow and arrow, is associated with Valentine's day and is the son of Venus, the Roman Goddess of Love. However, in Greek mythology, Cupid is known as Aphrodite's son Eros.* Cupid is the Roman counterpart of Eros and the son of Venus the Goddess of Love. He is usually shown as a young boy with wings and a bow and arrow which is meant to represent the joy and pain of love.
Eros - the Greek God of Love - is associated with Valentine's Day but he was not always a God; although he is the driving force behind all passions. Once promoted he became one of the oldest of the Gods responsible for bringing everything together and with total power over gods and men. *Some say that he is the son of Aphrodite but this is disputed by those who claim there is a picture of him helping at the birth of Aphrodite so it depends which version you read.
