Built about 1740
Before the development of New Addington the only significant form of employment in the Addington area was agricultural. This included the maintenance and construction of implements and buildings. One of the most important sites for this work was the forge or smithy. T he Forge on Village Road still exists today. It was built twice, once in the 16th century, demolished, and reconstructed in 1815.
The forge thrived well into the 20th century, making and repairing agricultural equipment.
The Addington Forge now houses a long established business run by the Collins family which recently celebrated it 50th anniversary.
Opening times: 10am - 4pm Monday to Friday and 10am - 12.30pm on Saturday (visitors welcome)
