Researching Family History

The International Genealogical Index (IGI) is compiled by the Church of Latter Day Saints (i.e. the Mormons). It is an index mainly of births/baptisms and marriages, compiled from parish registers and other sources. It contains entries dating from 1538, when the first parish registers were compiled, to the late 19th century. The Local Studies Library have the 1992 fiche edition for the whole of the British Isles - there are separate indexes for each county, and for the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands. Croydon is included in the Surrey index.
