Croydon in Bloom 2008 - Awards

Categories '08

The Front Garden Award (best front garden or balcony)
Awarded to a private residence for the best garden and may include plants in containers and those planted directly in the ground. Winners will be nominated for entry in London in Bloom.

The Community Garden Award - (best street, square or cul-de-sac)
Awarded to either a group of gardens, frontages of buildings, or area of ground where the displays have been created specifically for the shared benefit and enjoyment of others. Winners will be nominated for entry in London in Bloom.

The Business Premises
This category may include industrial or office premises, shops and garage forecourts, street markets or any other area of business that contributes to the aims of London in Bloom (excluding pubs and restaurants). Winners will be nominated for entry in London in Bloom.

Best Hanging Basket or Container Award (visible from the street)
Awarded to a private residence and may include balconies on blocks of flats.

The Bloomin' Pub & Restaurant Award
An award made to the most attractive floral design or display seen by the passing public. Rear gardens do not qualify. Winners will be nominated for entry in London in Bloom.

Hotel & Guest House
An award for the most attractive floral design or display seen by the public. Rears of hotels and guest houses are not included.

Allotment Awards
Allotment holders can enter awards. Contact your local Allotment Society or the council's Allotment Officer for details.

Best School Garden
Awarded to the school where pupils have demonstrated an understanding of basic gardening knowledge taught through their curriculum.

Best Conservation Project
Awarded to an individual or group demonstrating sustainability and gardening methods which create new habitats.

Croydon in Bloom logo

Town or District Centre Award
Awarded to the district which achieves the highest standard of floral display and cleanliness and promotes it local environment and cultural roots. Districts may be nominated by local residents or members of the local business community.

The Biodiversity Award
This award will be made to the borough which supports the existing wildlife population, and creates and manages habitats to attract additional populations and/or species to the area.

London in Bloom Certificates of Excellence
This year, 30 certificates of excellence will be provided to Croydon for the borough to award to entries in any of the above categories or for any attractive display.

2008 RHS Britain in Bloom Theme - Local Roots
This award goes to the community that best encourages links between their unique local history and cultural diversity within their community. It should demonstrate this through Bloom community activities, planting styles and themes.
