Croydon in Bloom 2008Last year, Croydon achieved its best results in the London in Bloom awards. This year, it is honoured to have been nominated to represent the capital in the Large City category in Britain in Bloom. Our success in this prestigious competition relies on everyone joining together to help make Croydon stand out from the crowd. Croydon is one of London's greenest boroughs and was one of the first to get involved in the 'Bloom' campaign in the 1960s. Croydon in Bloom is part of the Britain in Bloom movement, the largest horticultural campaign in Europe, and each year Croydon participates in the regional campaign, London in Bloom. Everyone who enters Croydon in Bloom has an opportunity to have their entry seen by the local and regional judges and to receive recognition for their efforts. But the campaign is about more than just flowers and plants, the judges will want to see evidence of good conservation practices, a high standard of general cleanliness across the borough and a strong sense of community involvement at every stage of the campaign. The closing date for entries for this year's competition was 23rd June 2008. We have received a record number of nominations this year and we thank you for your continued support of Croydon In Bloom. If you have entered your entry is currently being judged. We may also be contacting you for further details about your entry. If you are successful for one of the trophies your nomination will be shown on 10th July to the London in Bloom Judges. Please note that due to the large amount of entries it will not be possible for them all to be shown to the judges on the day. We will contact you in advance if we plan to stop briefly for an opportunity to show your entry to the judges. If you have missed the deadline it is not too late. The judges will be marking the borough as a whole, as well as individual entries so no matter how small or large your front garden or balcony, no matter where you live, help "discover a greener borough" and make Croydon an even more attractive place in which to live, work and visit. As there are two judging days this year, the annual London in Bloom on the 10th July, and the prestigious Britain in Bloom on 4th August we have two excellent opportunities to make sure the efforts from all our entries spread a little summer colour and help the borough to attain a national title. Furthermore if you have an allotment then the Croydon in Bloom Allotment Awards are still open will be judged in August. For further details and online form see the allotment awards page.
