Training on Request

If your setting has a specific training need, the Early Years Improvement Team may be able to deliver a 2 hour course just for you. Courses can be arranged Monday - Friday, between 9:30am - 5:30pm. We offer one course per day only. The following are courses which may be of interest to you.

The Under Threes

Developing Planning and Assessment using the "Birth to Three Matters Framework"

This course looks at how to use the knowledge of Birth to three matters framework and to develop manageable planning and assessment.

Introduction to Birth to Three Matters

This course explores the "Birth to three matters" document and how to begin to understand how it works and how to use it in settings.

Inclusion

Supporting Children's Behavioural Learning

This course identifies ways in which we can support all children to learn about behaviour and ensure that our expectations are realistic.

Multi-Sensory Learning

This course introduces the use of multi-sensory inclusion bags and offers practical ways to include multi-sensory activities and develop a sensory area on a budget. It also highlights the vital role that multi-sensory activities can have in impacting children's learning.

Emotional Wellbeing

This course explores the purpose and possible content of a setting policy. It also looks at ways to share good practice and problem solving key issues.

Developing an SEN Policy

This course investigates ways to identify the indicators of emotional well being and explores ways to support children more effectively.

The Foundation Stage Curriculum

Developing Children's Writing

This course explores the developmental approach to children's early writing from birth to the end of the Foundation stage. It looks closely at the crucial role that practitioners play in nurturing and supporting children along their writing journey and helping Parents to value all types of attempts at writing. Ideas to enrich opportunities for writing through out the setting are given.

Enriching Outdoor Learning

This course looks at the importance of meaningful open-ended outdoor provision and resources. It examines reasons why the Outdoors is so essential in developing and challenging the minds and bodies of young children. There are also many practical ideas highlighted for resources, learning opportunities and planning.

Independent Learning, Exciting Learning Environments

This course explores how children's independence skills can be developed and supported by the workshop approach. It explores how to develop an exciting learning environment that will support children's learning through exploration.

Introduction to the Curriculum Guidance

This course aims to support practitioners to develop an understanding of the Curriculum and to relate some of the learning and teaching principles to current practice.

Maths using Everyday Resources

This course looks at ways of creating a mathematically rich environment and explores practical activities to support the stepping stones using everyday resources.

Observation and Assessment

This course looks at the importance of observations and assessments in children's learning, how to develop a manageable system for recording observations and how to strengthen the links between observation, assessment and planning.

Ready Steady Plan

This course introduces planning for the workshop approach in the Foundation Stage and outlines key points and principles for long, medium and short term planning.

Developing Children's Creativity

This course highlights ways in which creativity can be developed across the whole curriculum. It looks closely at the various strands within the area of creative development and aims to help practitioners plan opportunities for learning which link more closely with a child's development.

Role Play

This course explores the importance of role-play in young children's learning, looks at how role-play can open up opportunities for learning throughout the Foundation Stage and will give practitioners ideas on how to plan, implement and support quality role-play in the setting.

Resources for Supporting Physical Development

This is a practical course that provides practitioners with ideas for supporting physical development. It looks at the importance of developing large motor skills and children gaining mastery over their movements.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World - a Practical Approach

This course attempts to look closely at each strand within knowledge and understanding of the world and encourages practitioners to plan for real and relevant opportunities for learning within a carefully resourced environment.

The Cost

The cost of this training is £5:00 per person, up to a maximum £75.
