Training for a Qualification

The range of early years qualifications is vast.  The Government has acknowledged this and is putting together a National Framework of qualifications.

Broadly speaking there are five levels of qualification:

  • Introductory courses designed for people to see if they wish to embark on a career with young children

  • Courses equivalent to NVQ Level 2 (approx. GCSE grades A-C standard) for those who will work under supervision

  • Courses equivalent to NVQ Level 3 (approx. A level standard) for those who wish to run a private or voluntary setting, or work with a teacher in an LEA setting

  • Courses equivalent to NVQ Level 4 (recently launched) for those managing large or multiple settings

  • Professional development courses for practitioners wishing to update their knowledge, practice and skills

For the costs of all these courses you will need to contact the training provider.  Most full time courses are free to those continuing their education.

A Training Grant scheme is available to assist people to gain qualifications whilst they are working in Croydon Early Years and Childcare settings.  For further details please ring 020 8726 7424.
