Who we are and what we do

The Appliance Reuse Centre (ARC) is a charity that works in partnership with Croydon Council.

Our aim is to collect, refurbish and redistribute durable items such as cookers, fridges, washing machines and furniture in good condition and make these available at a reasonable cost. These are mainly goods that would end up in landfill sites.

All our goods come with a 6 month after sales warranty.

Donating to the ARC is easy.  We collect goods free of charge between 9am in the morning and 5pm in the evening - Monday to Friday.

By donating items to the ARC you are making a valuable contribution to people in need and doing your bit to save the planet!

What we accept and what we don't

We accept a range of items such as solid and upholstered furniture plus refrigeration and electrical appliances. There are a few items that we cannot collect and your council can advise on the best means of their disposal.

Some items - mainly due to their age - are either unsafe for us to offer to other people or, we don't have the facilities to dispose of them safely.

We would like:

  • Wooden furniture in reasonable condition - i.e. not broken or badly damaged
  • Chipboard flat-packed furniture
  • Wheeled office chairs that have five leg spindles
  • Glass-topped tables that have a safety 'kite mark'
  • Office chairs
  • Armchairs
  • Bed and mattresses
  • Sofas
  • Sofa beds
  • Electric cookers
  • Fridges less than 10 years old and in reasonably sound condition
  • Microwaves less than 5 years old and so long as they are undamaged
  • Washing machines, washer dryers and tumble dryers in reasonably sound condition - i.e. rust free, clean and complete with all their parts

Sorry - we would not like:

  • Loose timbers, planks or wood
  • Parts of wooden furniture or broken wooden furniture
  • Badly damaged upholstered furniture
  • Upholstered furniture made before 1990 or any upholstered furniture that does not have a Kite Mark safety label on it
